For our heroes & their families, a memorial garden to comfort families of the fallen
will be completed and dedicated in spring 2011. As the nation’s only stateside armed forces
mortuary, every single military casualty outside the United States, no matter what rank, branch
of service, or manner of death, is transported to Dover Air Force Base in Delaware
and prepared for burial. In 2010, a new facility was dedicated at DAFB called Center for Families
of the Fallen to provide support for grieving families who come to Dover to witness dignified
transfers and receive the remains of their loved ones. The inside of this recently refurbished
building is warm and homey, but the outside is nondescript and lacking in privacy. In response
to this need, the Delaware Federation of Garden Clubs with the approval of the Secretary
of the Air Force has offered to install a professionally designed and landscaped garden, adjacent
to the new Center and screened from the road. The goal is to create a quiet, outdoor space
for visiting families that is peaceful and private. For more information about the Memorial
Garden project, please contact Delaware Federation of Garden Clubs, email MemorialGarden AT yahoo.com,
					telephone 302-468-1900.
